The Mississippi Delta
It begins a few miles outside of Memphis, Tennesee,
heading toward Clarksdale, Mississippi,
and ends in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
Although 61 and 49 continues down to Louisiana and
Alabama, Delta flat Lands
ends around Yazoo City.
The land is perfectly flat (hence delta), and is often called
The Flat Lands. It has few hills or elevated areas. Some areas are
characterized by swamps, bogs, and creeks similar to
those in Louisiana. Rice and fish farming are now the largest industries.
Residents of the Mississippi Delta include
African Americans, Caucasians, and descendants
of the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Tunica tribes of Native Americans,
and Hispanics.
